Implementing Upgrade Licensing
Sentinel RMS provides two ways by which upgrade licensing is implemented:

Version Upgrade
Version upgrade allows you to upgrade the versions of existing licenses without increasing the hard limit of those licenses. For example:
Company A has recently launched version 3.4 of its product which provides some additional features that were not available in version 3.3. The company wants all its clients using version 3.3 to be able to upgrade to version 3.4. By providing its customers with upgrade licenses, Company A ensures that only customers who already have a license for version 3.3 can upgrade to the new version.
Sentinel RMS allows end users to upgrade the version of their software by using echouid. Refer to Generating Upgrade License Code.
To upgrade to a newer version, the user needs to specify feature name, feature version, license model, lock info, time stamp and upgraded version.
The upgrade license feature is applicable only to the base license that the customer chooses. Once a base license is upgraded, it cannot be removed or deleted dynamically. The upgrade license feature needs to be applied during the License Manager startup only.
Capacity Upgrade
The capacity upgrade feature of Sentinel RMS enables a customer to upgrade the capacity of non-pooled licenses. For example, a client using the capacity of 1000 for the team limit of 2 wants to upgrade the capacity to 1200. This can be achieved by using the capacity upgrade feature of Sentinel RMS.
To upgrade the capacity of the existing license, you need to specify feature name, feature version, license model, lock info, time stamp and capacity increment.

Things to Remember with Upgrade Licenses
As a developer, you need to keep the following points in mind before generating upgrade licenses:
>Since the 8.2.3 Windows release, it is possible to generate upgrade licenses for network licenses with commuting option enabled. However, upgrade licenses cannot be generated for trial and redundant licenses.
>Upgrade licenses cannot be used to extend an expiration date.
>Upgrade licenses are available as encrypted licenses only. Further, they are not available as readable or numeric licenses.
>Pooled capacity licenses cannot be upgraded for capacity.
>Non-capacity licenses cannot be upgraded for capacity.
